Cranky Kong arranges for King K. Rool to steal DK's banana hoard again just to make DK prove his adventure will be just as fun without flashy graphics.
DK and Diddy retain their moves, but only one appears on-screen at any time. While the Kong family doesn't appear, Rambi and Expresso return to help out on some stages.
In order to save your game, you must find all four K.O.N.G. letters in a level and reach the goal. One new item is the Kong Token. In certain bonus stages, all of the Kong Tokens you have collected so far can be grabbed for extra lives

One of the stage settings that appears in this game is set on a construction site in a large city, referencing the original arcade Donkey Kong.
