Cameos

Mario & Luigi

Mario & Luigi Boxart

The boxart for the game shows Mario and Luigi driving the Monster car. Their names also appear on the windshield.

In-game, you see the drivers of the car when you refuel or win. While they don't resemble the Mario Bros. in these screens, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed into an interview on the Nintendo website that he intended the driver to be Mario.

"It was a normal racing game, but I remade the overall structure of the rallies and made the main character Mario. In other words, it became a game in which Mario races a buggy around courses with a lot of intense ups and downs."
