Broadcast Satellaview-X
When Nintendo launched its Satellaview service in Japan, allowing Super Famicom owners to play games through a satellite feed, they created a number of new titles based on Famicom Disk System franchises. One of them was this extension of the Shin Onigashima story, expanding on characters and events that were largely glossed over in the original.
The Satellaview version proved to be enough of a commercial success that Nintendo agreed to publish the game in cartridge format.
Nintendo Power & Cartridge Release
When Nintendo launched the Nintendo Power service for downloading games on to blank carts, Heisei: Shin Onigashima was the first game that was made available thanks to its success on the Satellaview. While they didn't feature the voice acting that appeared in the Satellaview version, the game included a slightly altered version of the original Shin Onigashima.
In a homage to the first game in the series, the game was released on two carts. Ringo and Matsunosuke's story appeared on the first cart, while Ohana's story and the final chapter appeared on the second cart.
A four-part English walkthrough for Heisei: Shin Onigashima, including instructions, directions, information on action scenes and main plot points.
In the second chapter, Ringo's owner is running around the village trading items. One of the items is the Golden Money Idol, which appears in the shape of Mario.
