Design Mode

Objective of Design Mode

Design your own course, then race on it with the rules from your choice of any of the main game modes. You can only design one course at a time, and your course can only have one route on it.

The Design Mode Menu has two sections.

Game Modes

After you have designed a custom course, you can select which of the three main game mode rules you want to play it with:

  • Fighting Course: Survive to the goal on your custom course. Invaders and road obstacles appear.
  • Endurance Course: Reach the target distance within the time limit. Invaders and road obstacles appear.
  • Solo Course: Reach the target distance within the time limit. Only road obstacles appear.

You will be unable to select any game modes until you have created a course and pressed SELECT. If you return to this menu, this means the course can be played.

Course Creation

These options are used for creating and saving your course.

  • Save: Save your design to a tape deck.
  • Load: Load your design to a tape deck.
  • Design: Go to the course design screen.
  • Reset: Delete any custom course data.

About Save/Load

In the original Japanese Famicom release, you could save your designs and load them again using the Famicom Data Recorder. This was a tape deck that could write data to and read data from a cassette tape.

Outside of Japan, the Data Recorder was planned but never released. The Save and Load features still appear on the game's menu, but they do not work as intended.

When the game was re-released on the Wii Virtual Console, the save and load features were programmed back into the game.
