Virtual Boy

The Virtual Boy headset used a system of mirrors to produce a stereoscopic 3D effect. Characters rushed in and out of the background and 3D games could present depth and distance. The headset was mounted on a stand and powered by batteries.
Despite its innovations, the system's shortcomings led to a short lifespan. The black and red display was reported to cause headaches and nausea, the battery life was poor, and the system's portability was often called into question thanks to the unwieldy design. The Virtual Boy was discontinued after less than a year on the market, and didn't make it to market in Europe at all.
