He is named for the Nintendo studio that makes the F-Zero and Mario games, Nintendo EAD (Entertainment, Analysis & Development). His ship is called the Great Star.

He shares his name with Fox McCloud's father, and his racer "Little Wyvern" is based on the Star Fox Arwing ships.
