Nintendo All-Stars Archive
As well as being a massive Nintendo nerd, I'm also a keen illustrator. Soon after I started NinDB, I put together some illustrations of obscure characters I was interested in and wrote up some descriptions of them. Eventually, other artists also contributed. The aim was to one day have an All-Stars section to challenge the trophy hoard in Super Smash Bros.
We didn't quite make it that far. I have made occasional attempts to revive it. One of these attempts developed into the much more successful Halloween art project, Nintober.
Here are the collected works, archived here for the first time after an extremely long hiatus.
Series 1
The initial run of Nintendo All-Stars ran between 2004 and 2005. Originally starting out with short character profiles, as the series went on, the backstory of these characters grew longer and longer. Eventually it became difficult to keep up this level of research and detail. Towards the end, some illustrations and features were contributed by guests to the site.
Series 2
A 2007 attempt to relaunch Nintendo All-Stars with improved artwork and better researched articles. The backgrounds are in the old website colour scheme, and it was one of the website's many redesigns that led to this design and layout being abandoned almost immediately.
Bonus: Unused Character Artwork
As is typical for one of my art projects, I began Nintendo All-Stars full of ambition, then slowly neglected it until it went away. However, both the 2004-05 and 2007 runs had artwork prepared for the next set of profiles. While these were never finished, here are a few of the lost character portraits I still have knocking around in the archives.
Series 1
Two more characters were lined up. They were going to have simple backgrounds for the first time. I was no longer satisfied with how these illustrations were coming out, and the project was put on hold.

Series 2
The next set of profiles were all going to be Kirby themed. The list included Meta Knight and Marx as well, although I don't have sketches of them. Kirby didn't come out particularly well, although Nightmare is rad! Sky Skipper was sketched and scanned alongside the original four profiles, but I wasn't satisfied with how far I'd drifted from the original character design.
