In the Edo-era, when the Tokugawa family ruled over Japan, there was a castle where a huge stone statue of the demon Murasame watched over four provinces.
On a stormy night, a glowing golden object dropped from the heavens and landed on Murasame Castle. The statue of Murasame was brought to life, taking control of the Lords of the four provinces and giving each of them a gem they can use to control their people.
The shogunate sends trainee samurai Takamaru to remove the four Lords from power, battling his way through ninjas, monsters and other warriors.
