As Donbe heads deeper inside the temple, he passes through a gate. As he does, the torch goes out and he hears the voice of Hinoe.
The dragon was once sealed in a jewelled box possessed by Otohime, Princess of the Dragon Palace. Once every million years Otohime must reincarnate and she leaves the jewelled box in the hands of the animals on the surface. This time the humans foolishly opened the box and freed the dragon. The Avatar of Darkness now spreads its evil and only Donbe can seal it away. The dragon's essence is in its orb, which must be placed inside the jewelled box to seal the dragon. The path to Onigashima where the dragon resides can be found at Shiraishi Spring.
With her final words, Hinoe says that if Donbe wants to speak to her again, he should find the heavenly water in the capital city.
A magic gavel appears and Donbe takes it.
