Nintendo All-Stars: Pokémon Trainer Red
Profile
Red had lived and grown up in the small town of Pallet in the Kanto region, surrounded by stories of Pokémon but never having a chance to own one himself. Then one day he received a call from the local Pokémon expert, Professor Oak, to meet with him. Oak gave Red his very first Pokémon, and Oak's grandson Blue battled it. Red was sent off on a small errand to Viridian City, and upon his return he was given a Pokédex, Poké Balls and all the tools needed to take on the gym leader challenge. Red had proven himself to be good with Pokémon.
He passed through the bug-infested Viridian Forest and arrived in Pewter City, where he visited the museum and learned about fossil Pokémon. He challenged the gym leader, Brock, to a battle, and took down his rock Pokémon easily, earning his first badge. He then travelled east and onto the path that led through Mt. Moon. Inside he found many Rock Pokémon and the mysterious Clefairy. Before he could escape he found several members of Team Rocket poring over some fossils. He fought them off and one of them was impressed enough to hand Red a fossil of his own.
Passing out of the cave, Red ended up in Cerulean City. The gym leader, Misty, used her Water Pokémon, Staryu and Starmie, but she couldn't stand up to Red's team. With two badges in hand, Red met with Blue again and it was suggested that he visit Bill, the Poké Maniac. Bill had invented the PC Pokémon Transfer system, but Red could only find a Pokémon in his house. It turned out Bill had been fooling with a new invention and had become transformed into a Pokémon. Red helped him change back, and was given some helpful Pokémon information and a ticket for the S.S. Anne in return. He returned to Cerulean and travelled south through the underground tunnel to Vermillion City.
He found he couldn't battle in the gym without hacking down the overgrown plants that blocked the way. He had heard the captain of the S.S. Anne was a swordmaster, and he had a ticket to board the ship! He found the captain, but he was too ill to teach anyone anything, so he gave Red a Hidden Machine instead - allowing a Pokémon to instantly learn a useful attack. Returning to Viridian (and after waving goodbye to the S.S. Anne), Red was able to Cut into Viridian's gym and face the electrical Lt. Surge. The "Lightning American" as he was known, used a Raichu to battle Red, but the mouse was overpowered by Red's varied team.
It was time to travel east through the Rock Tunnel, where many new Pokémon could be found. On the other side, Red rested in the spooky Lavender Town, where mysterious ghosts had taken control of Pokémon Tower. Red travelled west to Celadon City and defeated gym leader Erika in a grassy battle. He then uncovered a secret Team Rocket operation going on underneath the Game Corner, and chased the Rockets out of the town for good. Armed with a new Silph Scope, Red travelled back to Lavender Town and discovered the mysterious ghost was Marowak. He passed the ghost and chased away the Rockets that were holding Mr. Fuji, the town's elder, hostage. He was thankful, and passed a Poké Flute on to the young Pokémon Trainer. With it, Red could awaken any sleeping Pokémon.
Red was able to pass through the Celadon City gates after befriending the guards there, but access to most buildings was blocked by Team Rocket guards. Red was able to sneak into the Silph Co. building and creep around unseen by the patrolling guards. Something odd was afoot, and it was only when Red found a guard's keycard he was able to freely travel through the building. Silph Co. was famous for its inventions, and they were after the greatest invention - a Poké Ball that never fails to catch its prey - a Master Ball. Red reached the office of the chairman, but found Team Rocket boss Giovanni in his place. Only after besting Giovanni in a Pokémon Battle was Red victorious in foiling the Rockets' plans. The chairman was happy to pass the Master Ball on to their hero, and Red left to challenge the psychic gym leader Sabrina for another badge. He also dropped by the unofficial Fighting Dojo and won himself a rare fighting Pokémon as well.
It was time to travel south, and Red battled a grumpy Snorlax after awakening it with his Poké Flute. On the path he met many trainers and new species of Pokémon before finally reaching Fuchsia City. After battling the ninja gym leader Koga, who fought with status effects such as poison and sleep, Red paid a visit to the Safari Zone. Here lived hundreds of Pokémon, some of them extremely rare. For a small price for entry, he was given a handful of Safari Balls to catch them with. However, he could not battle... only throw balls, bait or rocks. Red walked away with a good haul, and with a significantly more detailed Pokédex.
It was time to travel to Cinnabar Island, and Red used the Surf Hidden Machine on one of his Water Pokémon. He had to pass through the Seafoam Islands before he reached the volcanic Cinnabar, and many legends surrounded that island chain. Nevertheless, Red pressed on and arrived at Cinnabar, but the gym was locked. After snooping around, he discovered the key had been lost in Cinnabar Mansion, an old laboratory that had burnt down recently following an unusual experiment with Pokémon. Red crawled around in the dust and eventually found the key, and also added a couple of Fire Pokémon to his collection. He unlocked Cinnabar Gym, and after passing a Pokémon quiz with flying colours he battled Blaine the fire master. Now with only one gym left to go before he faced the Elite Four, Red travelled north... to Pallet Town.
After resting at home for a while, Red was ready to take on the final gym at Viridian City. Upon entering he was shocked to find the gym leader was... Giovanni - the leader of Team Rocket. With one final climactic battle, Giovanni fell, and with it he declared the end of Team Rocket. With all of the gym badges in his pocket, Red went west and north through the Victory Road caves, eventually arriving at the Elite Four competition at Indigo Plateau.
One by one he challenged the Elite Four, and their Pokémon battles were the toughest yet. Lorelei was a master of ice, and her Lapras was the star of the show - freezing all who approached with its Blizzard. Second up was Bruno, whose Rock and Fighting types made him tough for Red's physical Pokémon. The third battle was against Agatha's Ghost and Poison Pokémon team, with Gengar's powerful Nightshade attack stealing the health from Red's battlers. Finally, it was a battle against Lance, the Dragon Pokémon trainer. His Pokémon were strong in defense and attack, but Red knew what would topple Lance, and a heart-stopping moment later, Dragonite fell. Red was victorious, but Lance informed him that only one other challenger had passed the Elite Four. Red had to face this final trainer... Professor Oak's grandson and Red's longtime rival, Blue.
Blue's team was extremely strong and well-balanced. Red had to think carefully about which of his Pokémon to call out. One by one they battled until finally Blue's last Pokémon fell to the ground. There were no more challengers: Red was the new Pokémon League Champion!
Red's name as a trainer was secured after that. He travelled the world in search of every last Pokémon. His Pokédex was completed mere weeks after his victory, meaning he had uncovered the mysterious Legendary Birds, as well as the bio-mutant, Mewtwo. He trained hard and raised his favourite Pokémon to be as strong as they could be. It is said that when a lone Johto League champion found Red training in a cave he was a man of few words, and for all his power and might, he still kept an unevolved Pikachu at his side. It is presumed he is still training somewhere in the Pokémon world.
